How To Become A Professional Private Investigator
By John M. Lajoie, CLI, CII
I always enjoy reading the works of NALI members. There is an immediate feeling of pride that I am opening the pages of a book authored by a professional colleague, friend and NALI Board Member. I approached John M. Lajoie
'
s new publication with the same interest and was not disappointed. It is a book sold only over the Internet, via his website, www.PrivateInvestigator.com. It does not pander to it
'
s audience by offering romantic images or unrealistic promises about our profession. Instead, it offers intelligent, no-nonsense information about this industry as a potential vocation to those who seriously are considering the field of investigation as a life
'
s work.
Take for example, his definition of an investigator as
"
an individual that studies, learns, retains, and applies the art and science of investigation.
"
He does not promise pipe dreams fulfilled or instant wealth. He emphasizes the education and preparation of hard working, self motivated, patient individuals as the backbone of a good investigator. Integrity, honesty, and a sincere concern with finding the truth echo through the pages.
John then proceeds to discuss personal assessment, self evaluation and honesty before even embarking on investigation as a career. He provides information about the various types of investigative services and professional organizations that assist and educate the working investigator. I was most pleased with the exceptionally thorough compilation of individual States laws and requirements for licensing.
I regularly receive inquiries from
"
wannabe
"
investigators. College students and persons dissatisfied with their current employment call frequently to ask how they can enter this field, that they see as more thrilling and fulfilling than anything else they can imagine. I used to take hours of time explaining the trials and tribulations, talking straight talk and seriously promoting the proper education and apprenticeship. Now I simply refer them all to John Lajoie's website and his publication. He says it all and does it extremely well.
